How do you become a Host with VRJ?

Join us at 'Visit The Real' as we introduce you to visitors from over seas who desire to visit the real Jamaica in a safe and secure environment.

First up you need to own or under certain circumstances manage a rental property.

We can work with you to ensure everything is up to the high standards your guests would expect whilst maintaining the elements of real life in the most beautiful island of Jamaica.

Local law and Insurances

Evidence must be shown that the property and any services offered are in compliance with local law.

It is in everyone's best interest to ensure that brand Jamaica is protected and that our guests are safe and secure.

To that end until policy is in place as the Government seek the best ways to regulate AirBnB style short lets, we strongly recommend you consider the following: (Please note the following points are for hotels, and not necessarily a requirement for you)

General Consumption Tax (GCT)

Hotels typically charge GCT on their services, which is a value-added tax collected from guests and remitted to the government.

Room Tax:

There is a room tax that hotels collect from guests, and it is usually a set percentage of the room rate.

Tourism Enhancement Fee (TEF)

The TEF is a mandatory fee collected from visitors staying in hotels. It is used to fund tourism-related projects and initiatives.

Property Tax:

Hotels also pay property tax based on the assessed value of their properties.

Income Tax:

Hotels are subject to corporate income tax on their profits.

Tax and duties:

It’s important to note that tax and duty regulations can change over time, so it’s advisable to consult with local authorities or a tax professional for the most up-to-date information on the specific taxes and duties applicable to short term property rentals such as in AirBnB in Jamaica.
